About The Helping Hands Foundation
The Helping Hands Foundation was founded in 2013 with the goal of helping Long Island reach its potential. Tony Gentile, one of the founding fathers of Adventureland, always wanted to give back to the Long Island community, and this foundation was created in his memory to do just that.
Since 2013, we have donated over $18,000 in scholarships to Long Island students. Applications for the Tony Gentile Memorial Scholarship Fund are accepted annually and award recipients are announced every May. Eligible participants must be a High School Senior on Long Island attending a college or university on Long Island the upcoming semester and must have a passion for the Long Island Community. The Tony Gentile Memorial Scholarship Fund was awarded a $50,000 endowment from the Sachem Dental Group to ensure that this program lives on in perpetuity.
We’ve also instituted three annual goods drives at Adventureland, and over the past three years with the help of our friends at Cox Media, Connoisseur Media, DiCarlo Foods, Kohl’s, WB Mason, and Rhode Island Novelty, we have donated thousands of toys to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, thousands of school supplies to students and programs in Copiague, Amityville, and Wyandanch School Districts, and thousands of pounds of food to local pantries like L.I. Cares and the Town of Babylon Food Pantry.
We’ve also created and implemented bottle recycling and Dollars for Scholars programs within the staff of Adventureland and the William Floyd School District that have generated over $4,000 that was donated back to students in the form of scholarships and to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
This past year, along with Adventureland, we have made a $20,000 pledge to Stony Brook Children’s Child Life Program. We’ve also implemented a Coat Drive to help support the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless and helped Girl Scout Troop 239 achieve their Bronze Award by sponsoring a bench made of recycled materials in honor of a classmate that passed away.
With the continued support of the Long Island community, we hope to help more and more Long Islands each year!
